Mathematics

We are beginning our unit on multiplication! We have learned that the multiplication symbol (x) means "groups of." For example, 3 x 5 means 3 groups of 5. We used dice to create groups and sizes of groups, built the groups with manipulatives, and then drew a representation and wrote the multiplication problem.
Our first math unit of the year focuses on numbers through 9,999. Students are working with place value, addition, and subtraction of these numbers. Each week, students have a new math partner. Partners have mathematical conversations together, compare answers, work together to solve problems, and practice explaining how to solve problems to one another.
